Fall of Berlin

After the German defeat in the Battle of the Bulge, it was only a matter of time before Hitler's "Third Reich" collapsed.  The Soviet Army was the first into Berlin on April 26, 1945. After heavy fighting throughout the city, Hitler was informed that the city was going to fall.  On April 30, Hitler and his wife committed suicide in a bunker under the city.  Their bodies were taken out and burned.  On May 2, 1945, the remaining army surrendered.

Although the war in Europe was over, the fight against Japan was still going.
